Draws For Academicals Football Finals Hold in Anambra, Teams Get Kits
The Draws for 2021 Anambra Academicals Football Championship were held for 12 teams from primary and secondary schools in Anambra which qualified for the semi finals.
The Primary Schools category is for U-13 while the Secondary is for U-17 respectively.
Complete set of football kits including training footballs were also distributed to all the U-17 teams to aid their preparations.
This year’s edition has four male teams from the primary school category, four teams for boys and four teams for girls respectively in the secondary school categories.
The draws which were held at Government House in Awka, had Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha male drawn against Aguata High School, Aguata to battle for a place in the grand finale.
In the second game of the day, Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi will trade tackles with Fr Joseph Secondary School, Aguleri to compete for the second finalists.
For the girls, Community Secondary School, Isuofia will play against Christ Redeemer College, Amesi while Community Secondary School Azia will pair up against Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha.
In the primary schools cadre, Umuogali Primary School Oba will play against Eri Primary School, Aguleri while Esiagulu Primary School Ekwulobia will play against Community Primary School Orsumenyi.
The primary schools matches will be held on Aug 11 while secondary schools girls and hold on Aug. 12 while secondary schools boys will hold on Aug. 13.
All matches will be played at Tansi International College football pitch, Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission said the state government had expanded the scope by giving female footballers an opportunity to grow their skills.
Oli said the move yielded dividends when the Anambra U-15 football qualified from the South East for the National Sports Festival in Benin (Edo 2020) but did not make the trip because of Covid 19 restrictions.
He said the developmental programme had earned youths from the state scholarship worth millions as well as national call-ups.
He advised the participants to pay good attention to academics while pursuing a career in football.
Oli said the teams that will make it to the grand finale will be kitted in penalised branded jerseys and urged the managers of the qualifiers to submit names of 20 players of their teams.
