EEDC Commences New MAP, Installs 92,000 In “Phase O” of NMMP
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has commenced the Meter Asset Provider (MAP), a metering scheme that allows customers to pay for metres and get reimbursed in form of energy over 36 equal installments.
The MAP, which is being reintroduced after it was suspended late last year, will complement the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP),
NMMP is an initiative of the Federal Government designed to close the existing metering gap in the electricity sector.
Mr. Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC who disclosed this on Thursday said customers should see the New MAP as another way of increasing access to metres accessing meters.
Ezeh urged customers in its network to take advantage of the scheme since it still amounts to getting the meters free, as the cost of purchase will be reimbursed.
He said that a Single-Phase meter currently goes for N48,263.38, while a Three-Phase meter is N89,069.32. These costs are VAT inclusive.
He said EEDC installed about 92,000 meters to customers in the outgoing “Phase O” of the NMMP
“The MAP and NMMP are to operate simultaneously and customers are free to use any of the metering programs,” he said.
Ezeh said customers who wish to key into the programme should visit the Customer Service Unit at any EEDC District Office to pick up the Meter application form
“Alternatively, they can log on to the EEDC website (www.enugudisco.com), click on the “MAP Meter Request” button to fill the online form.
“Once the customer completes the form and returns to the Customer Service representative together with a copy of the latest electricity bill and a proof of identification with either Drivers License, Voters Card, NIN or International Passport).
“After the pre-survey process is concluded, the customer will be issued a Demand Note to make an upfront payment for the approved meter.
“This document will contain the name of the MAP, the amount to be paid by the customer, the designated bank and account details.
“Once payment for the approved meter is made at the designated bank, a copy of the bank Teller should be presented to the Customer Service representative at the EEDC District Office.
“This will kick off the process for Meter installation and within 10 working days of payment, the MAP is under obligation to have metered the customer.
“It is also important to emphasize that the meter application form is not for sale and is issued free.
“Customers should make payment into the dedicated bank account as provided in the Demand Note and not to any individual or group”, Ezeh said.
