Ex- Transcorp boss advocates free power supply to alleviate pains of lockdown
Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Chairman of Chineto Ozigbo Foundation has called for free and regular power supply to Nigerians to enable them cope with the economic crisis and boredom associated with the ongoing lockdown in most parts of the country.
The former Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp boss disclosed this in a statement signed by General Manager of Chineto Ozigbo Foundation, Izuchukwu Oraelosi, and made available to Newsmonitor in Awka.
He proposed that the free power supply should be made part of the stimulus package of the Federal Government to help people wade through the COVID-19 crisis.
Ozigbo who is a governorship aspirant in Anambra for 2021 election, described the adverse economic effects of the coronavirus induced lockdown across the nation as enormous.
He listed power, security and water as the critical amenities that should be provided by government and philanthropists for the vulnerable.
He said Chineto Ozigbo Foundation had made interventions worth not less than N20m in providing bags of rice, hand sanitisers, face masks, and education materials in no fewer than 60 communities in the South- East.
“I urge governments and wealthy individuals to prioritize the provision of food and water, security, and power. These are vital in this lockdown period.
“Through these programmes and our participation in other COVID-19 intervention projects, we are touching lives of over 100,000 people in my home state of Anambra.
“We call on well-meaning individuals in Anambra and across Nigeria to be more generous and help those who need help at this difficult time. Government cannot do it alone,” he said.
Ozigbo noted that COVID-19 was a global pandemic in which two million people have been infected and that a concerted effort was needed to combat it.
