FCE(T), Umunze Lecturers Embark On Three Weeks Warning Strike
Lecturers of Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra have embarked on a three weeks warning strike over management’s refusal to meet their demands.
The lecturers also urged parents of students in the institution to call thdm back home as there was academic activity going on
Dr Churchill Okonkwo, Chairman of College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) FCE(T), Umunze told newsmen on Friday that the industrial action commenced on Aug. 23 chapter.
Okonkwo said part of their grouse was non-payment of outstanding entitlement including mobilisation of academic staff who go for supervision for teaching practice since 2017.
He said there was also the TETFUND intervention in teaching practice, which helped to augment whatever the college gave for teaching practice supervision but had not been accessed since 2016.
“We are here to notify the public that lecturers of the Federal College of Education, Umunze have commenced a three weeks warning strike.
“We believe we want to let the public know, especially parents of our students who may want to believe that their children were in school undergoing academic activities to know that no academic activity is going on in the college now.
“The management of the college has been trying to deny the strike, but the truth is that students are staying idle in school, and we believe it is a bit harmful to leave students on campus to stay idle without any activity,” he said.
Reacting to the development , Mr Sam Otti, the Public Relations Officer of the college in a notice insisted that there was no strike, while also advising students of their upcoming exams.
