Football: AIFL Season6 Kicks Off Oct 8, Welcomes New Clubs
The sixth season of Anambra Independent Football League (AIFL) an will kick off on Oct. 8, organisers have said.
AIFL announced the date in a communiqué issued after its general council meeting held on Sept 10.
The League also welcomed three new entrants including Peace FC Awka, FC Harkdove Awka and Hopeland FC Nnewi into its fold.
The communiqué was signed by
Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike, Rev. Fr. Damian Ogwatta, Rev. Fr. Christian Umeojilinnaka and Ikenna Nwokedi, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Match Coordinator and Secretary of AIFL respectively.
The AIFL said the league would feature 14 clubs in the coming season against the previous 10-team league format.
The AIFL also set Sept.30 deadline for all participating clubs to complete their registration formalities, while welcoming new entrants Peace FC Awka, FC Harkdove Awka and Hopeland FC Nnewi into its fold.
“The AIFL Season6 will kick off on Oct. 8, and owing to interest shown by some clubs in the state, the council unanimously agreed to admit two more clubs for the new Season making it a total of 14 clubs.
“Teams are to register not more than 40 players for a season and should travel for their league matches with at least two sets of jerseys on match days,” it stated.
The AIFL urged clubs management and match officials to ensure their players appear well kitted for games warning that violators risked disqualification from matches.
“Instigation of fans and players by any team official during match days to cause civil disorder and abuse of the match officials will attract a fine of one point deduction from the accumulated points for the team involved.
“In view of the approaching Season the council call on all stakeholders to ensure they abide by the rules of the game before, during and after the season,” it.stated.
The AIFL General Council conducted elections for the vacant positions of the AIFL Secretary and Assistant Secretary where Ikenna Nwokedi Secretary emerged for the respective posts..
Recall that the former secretary, Godsent Eriobu who was also the team manager of Udala FC, Uke died in a gunmen attack on July 13 alongside Philip Udala, President of the club.
AIFL is an amateur football league in Anambra organised and managed by private football technocrats under the chairmanship of Rev. Fr Dike of the Catholic Diocese of Awka.
