Gov. Ngige Kidnapped (History)
On Thursday July 10, 2003G Gov. Chris Ngige was seized and taken away in the trunk of a car.
Almost at about the same time, a forged letter of resignation was presented to the Anambra House of Assembly.
The letter surfaced shortly after his disappearance, declaring his intention to step down from office and creating a political vacuum in the state.
But the heist did not sail through as the governor later re-emerged to claim his seat
Ex governor Ngige later recounted the events, claiming he had sensed signs that he was being forced to leave power.
He believed that as long as he did not submit a letter of resignation, he could not .be asked to vacate his office.
An account has it that around 11:00 am, DSP Ige entered the governor’s office in civilian clothing without greeting, engaged in trivial conversation, and then instructed Ngige to step down.
Ngige attempted to make a phone call but was initially refused; he was later allowed to answer a call from Okogie.
Subsequently, Ige and another individual handed him a resignation letter to sign.
Ngige refused but verbally stated he would resign if allowed to pack his belongings.
He was then escorted to his hotel, where he managed to speak with Dr. Alex Ekwueme and Prince Ogbulafor with the help of Igwe Mbaukwu.
During this time, Ngige was able to connect to an FRCN live studio, affirming that he was alive, had not resigned, but was being held captive.
Ngige was later sacked through the court by Mr Pete Obi in 2026.
That however was not the end of his political journey as he was later elected a senator and appointed as minister.
His attempts to return to Anambra Government House could not succeed.
