HDHTAN Moves To End  Multiple Levies, Economic Sabotage In Southeast, Southsouth

The Heavy Duty and Haulage Transport Association of Nigeria (HDHTAN) has vowed to protect businesses from activities of illegal revenue collectors on the nation’s  highways

Mr Azubuike Nwankwo, Head of HDHTAN Monitoring  in  Southeast and Southsouth zones said this while speaking with newsmen in Awka on Monday.

Nwankwo said the team had commenced operations on the highway in the regions and warned all illegal revenue collectors to steer clear of the roads.

He said the taskforce had been able to negotiate with  the Anambra government and secured a 50 per cent decrease in fees for various categories of haulage.

“We wish to appreciate the Anambra government for their support and partnership in what we are doing and that will improve the ease of doing business here to a great extent because cost of transportation is critical.

“I am happy to announce that our team has been able to negotiate a 50 per cent reduction of levies on 30ton, 20 ton and 10 ton loads of chippings from N10,000, N8,000 and N6,000 to N5,000, N4,000 and N3,000 respectively.

“For sand, trucks will now pay N4,000, N2,000 and N1,000 instead of N8,000, N4,000 and N2,000 for 30 ton, 20 ton and 10 ton loads respectively and this will be paid just once at the entry or any other designated point,” he said.

Nwankwo said States could take revenue from those operating within their territories but must be at the loading and unloading points.

He said the association was empowered by the Presidential Task Force Against Economic Sabotage and Multiple Taxation under Order-001 to kick out illegal toll agents on all federal highways.
