Humanity must unite against Coronavirus scourge….Bishop Ezeokafor
Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka has called on humanity to unite to conquer the disastrous danger posed by Coronavirus pandemic which had ravaged the world for the last three months.
Ezeokafor made the call in his homily at the celebration of Palm Sunday mass at Holy Family Spiritual Year, Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra on Sunday.
The bishop said it was time Christians and the church reached out to the poor among them and assist them to overcome the hardship occasioned by the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria.
It would recalled that most states in the country had roles out measures towards managing and containing the spread of COVID-19 including restriction of movement and shutdown of economic activities.
Bishop Ezeokafor noted that COVID-19 had humbled humanity like never before in its history and that it was a great lesson that God remained the beginning and the end of all that existed.
He said this was not the time for people to lose their faith in God but the time to trust more and pray ceaselessly assuring that there would be triumph at the end.
He commend the Anambra governments for its proactiveness stimulus packages mapped out for the elderly and others in the state.
“Corona virus has proved that we are mere mortals and that there is nothing extraordinary about human, COVID-19 has humbled everyone including those who hitherto who see no need to beckon on God for solution and help.
“What we should take away from what is happening now is that God is still God and He is up there on His throne.
‘I urge you all to give to those in need, we should learn to give at all times. A lot of people are living from hand to mouth.
“Many cannot feed very well let alone now that they are asked to sit-at-home. I feel for those people. We must find a way to assist them,” he said.
Ezeokafor, announced that the Diocese would soon unveil a stimulus packages for the poor within it, saying that funds and materials raised would be distributed through charity arms of the church including the Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC).
He the with effect from Palm Sunday every programme in the diocese including Maundy Thursday, Easter Vigil and Easter Mass would broadcast in radio station and streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.
