IGP relocates MOPOL 54 Base in Anambra from Obiono’s community to Nsugbe
Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police has ordered the immediate relocation of MOPOL 54 Squadron Headquarters, Base initially sited in Aguleri, the hometown of Gov. Willie Obiano to Nsugbe both in Anambra East Council Area.
Adamu said this during the official opening ceremony of Zone 13, a new zonal command in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states in Ukpo, Dunukofia Council Area of Anambra on Wednesday.
Newsmonitor recalls that the for IGP Ibrahim Idris on June 1, 2020 performed Ground Breaking for MOPOL 54, Aguleri amid pomp and ceremony.
IGP was joined by Assistant Inspector General of Zone 9 Umuahia, AIG Hosea Karma and among other dignitaries at the event which was aimed at strengthening security of lives and property of the people of Anambra State.
But announcing the movement of the MOPOL 54 Squadron Headquarters to Nsugbe on Wednesday, Adamu who was represented by Mr Celestine Okoye, Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of South East said he had received the outcry of Nsugbe People and viewed it with seriousness.
He said their cry for what originally belonged to them to be given to them had reached him and that he was ready to respond accordingly.
“I have an important message now, the IGP has heard the cry of Nsugbe people, your complaints have been heard and have decreed that the Mobile Base that is located in your area be brought to your area.
“So you people should immediately arrange the place for the takeoff, so that we can develop the place.
“The police is for Nigeria and not for anybody, so if you want to react against the Police, you should know that you are reacting against Nigeria,” he said.
Okoye had told the crowd that there were misunderstanding over the eventual location of Zonal Command but the choice of Ukpo was upheld after the state government was convinced that the community was within the Awka Capital Territory.
