Imo-Awka: Anambra CP Deployed Officers To Prevent Breakdown Of Public Peace
Mr Nnaghe Itam, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra has said the Command will not condone lawlessness among youths during this year’s Imo Awka cultural festival.
Itam said this when he played host to representatives of the Community who came to notify him of the festival as well as seek assistance of the Police on security.
Imo Awka is a celebration of the rich cultural and traditional heritage of Awka people, which involves open display that had resulted in violence in the past.
The guests were the Speaker of Eze Uzu Awka, the Palace Secretary of Eze Uzu, the Youth Leader, and other stakeholders of Awka Community.
He warned that no youth or group of youths should inconvenience residents of Awka under the guise of celebrating Imo-Awka festival.
He said the Police would not condone unruly behaviour adding that the Command would enforce the law and ensure public safety.
The CP said he had deployed Officers to intensify patro in some identified areal to boost confidence and prevent crime.
“I feel concerned that the community has not informed the Police about the festival of such magnitude which is supposed to start tomorrow, however, I urge you to work with the Police to make sure the celebration goes hitch-free.
“Residents, especially the Awka indigenes should be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious at all times,” he said.
