Joint Security Forces burst criminal hideout, kill five, recover IEDs in Anambra
A Joint Security Team comprising the Police, Military and other Security Agencies has carried out an offensive operation against a suspected armed gang in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The forces stormed the hideout at Umugem road, Ufuma around 12.30 pm of Jan. 14.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra said the team killed five members of the armed gang while some others escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.
“During the operation, the security team razed down the criminal camp and recovered four undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two AK47 assault rifles, one pump action gun, and one 75-volt battery with other incriminating items,” he said.
Ikenga said the success of the operations was attributable to the collaboration and coordination among the various security agencies.
He said operations were still ongoing in the area for possible arrest of the fleeing gang members.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police Mr Nnaghe Itam seeks greater cooperation of the people in the area for a patriotic involvement to take back the space.
“I want them to deny these criminal elements the space they use to cause tension in the State,” he said.
