Madu, 5-time WAFCON Winner Urges PBAT to Wipe Tears Of Veteran Falcons
Maureen Madu, a five time winner of the Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has commended President Bola Tinubu for an elaborate reception and generous reward to the 2025 Super Falcons.
Madu who played over 100 times for the Super Falcons said in Awka on Sunday that Tinubu has shown that the lives of women matters especially those who went into sports
Recall that the presidents hosted the 2025 golden WAFCON team in Abuja where he announced a reward if 3-bedroom flat and a cash reward of 100,000 dollars to each of the players
Madu who won title fir the sixth time as a coach in 2018 said they were not as fortunate even though they spent their youthful lives as trailblazers of female football and won laurels from the first to the ninth time for Nigeria.
Madu, who operates the Maureen Madu Kiddies Football Academy for girls in Anambra urged President Tinubu to extend his kind gestures to veteran Falcons in the spirit of his recognition and appreciation for sports women and female footballers in particular .
She said the gesture would demonstrate that the President appreciated their work for the country because without them who were the foundation, Nigeria would not be about being 10th time winners today.
She recalled that some members of Super Falcons were sacked by their clubs after coming to represent Nigeria at the Nations Cup.
“I want to specially thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for encouraging the girl child, this will also encourage the girls to be more serious about taking to football as a career
“I want to plead like some of my teammates have done that the president should please extend the hand of appreciation to all the players that participated from the onset of the WAFCON.
“I am not saying they should give us exactly the amount they gave to our younger sisters but at least a token of appreciation will go a long way to show that our labour was not in vain.
“Like my teammates have said, we have been neglected for a long time, this 10th cup did not just come up in the last competition, we are the pioneers of this great achieve
ment,” she said.
