National Anthem: Ezeonwuka Cautions Against Aggression, Defends Sen. Umeh
Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has called on Nigerian youths to be circumspect while expressing their displeasure with the change in national anthem.
Ezeonwuka, founder of Ogilisi Igbo Foundation, an Igbo Socio Cultural organisation and spiritual leader of Igbo nation also described as unfortunate, the unwarranted attack on Sen. Victor Umeh for explaining the role of the Senate on national television.
He said though the reintroduction of the old national anthem did not directly or immediately address the burning challenges of the people, it was the beginning of social and moral revolution that would lead to the Nigeria of everybody’s dream.
According to him, what is happening in Nigeria today is spiritual, there is power in spoken words and that old national anthem has positive words that can change our reality.
“Nigeria lacks unity, we lack brotherhood, we do not see ourselves as one, so I think that the message in the old anthem is important to us now, we need to profess those words, they have the powers to turn our fortune for God.
“Do our youths should take it easy, what elders saw while sitting down, they will not see even if they climb to the top of a tree, I agree that Nigeria is not easy now but let us no pull down the house,” he said.
Ogilisi Igbo as he popularly called said nobody should attack or insult See. Umeh for defending the Senate which he belonged to.
He said the law was now a product of the Senate and it would be wrong for anybody to think that he e would come out to condemn a decision he was part of, nothing that it would not have made any difference.
*My attention has been drawn to a video clip where one outspoken lady was insulting Sen. Victor Umeh, I understand her anger just liner every other Nigerian youth but she got it wrong.
“First of all, the old anthem is what Nigeria needs now, I support the reintroduction because of the positive message it contains. Some of you may not understand, it is beyond flesh and blood.
“Again, Umeh is not the problem, he is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is under oath to defend the Senate and that is what he did, so there is no need to transfer the anger to him or attack him, it is against our culture to insult adults in that manner,” he said.
