Nonye Soludo Bags Doctorate In Wellness As Ojukwu Varsity Celebrates 25 Anniversary
Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra governor has been conferred with of “Doctor of Public Health and Nutrition” (Honoris Causa) by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
Soludo received the degree award at the 25th Anniversary ceremony of COOU, Igbariam Campus on Saturday.
Prof. Kate Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor if the university said the degree was in recognition of her transformative “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative.”
Omenugha had earlier led a high-powered delegation from COOU to personally deliver the official award request letter to the governor’s wife.
Speaking at the combined convocation ceremony, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo extolled former Governor Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju for establishing the university .
Soludo said Mbadinuju w as a visionary leader whose foresight gave birth to the institution which had become a source of pride for the state but regretted that he had not received adequate recognition.
“This 25th anniversary of the university we are celebrating today was the brainchild of a remarkable man,” Soludo said.
“Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, the first civilian governor of Anambra State between 1999 and 2003, is the founder of this university. Yet, he has not been properly honoured for this contribution.”
Soludo recalled that the university originally started at the Uli campus, a vision brought to life by Mbadinuju’s dedication.
“May his soul rest in peace. I believe Anambra State has not done enough to celebrate him.
“We will find a meaningful way to immortalise the founder of this university, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju,” he said.
