NYSC Trains Field Officers On Effective Service Delivery In Anambra

 The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on inspectors and other field officers to keep watchful eye on corps members under their care.

Brig Gen Mohammed Fadah, Director General of the Scheme gave the charge at a Training Workshop in the South East Area Office held in Awka, the Anambra capital, on Wednesday.

Fadah was represented by Mrs Benjamin Chendo, a Deputy Director at the South East Area Office said the training was to equip participants with adequate inspection principles and procedures of the NYSC.

The theme of the training was “Effective and Efficient Inspection As A Panacea for Defective Corps Administration”.

He said the ideal inspector was expected to carry out on the spot inspection of corps members in their places of primary assignment with regular on activities to management.

The DG urged the participants to exhibit discipline, altruistic, responsibility and integrity as well as endeavour to promote the ideals of the Scheme at all times.

“An inspector must be a good listener, patient, fair to all confident, not easily intimidated by any circumstances and posses the capacity and to initiative in all situations.

“An inspector should be proactive and dynamic in problem solving by being easily accessible and paying prompt attention to complaints and problems of members, he must be honest and a role model for Corps Members,” he said.

On her part, Mrs Ekene Iruma, Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra said even in line with the mandate of the Scheme to ensure that corps members enjoyed optimal care during the service year.

Iruma said inspectors were expected to play the role of ‘baby nurses’ to corps members under their care noting that there was no place for absentee supervision.

She said workshop was also to acquaint the participants with news expectations from corps members with a view to scoring better outcomes.

According to her, the essence is to update field officers for better service delivery and ensure that corps members are well integrated, get more attention and better supervised.

“They are also going to be trained on report writing for effective feedback which is good for policy making,” she said.

The Guest Lecturer was Dr Ngozi Ulogu, a lecturer in the Department of English and Linguistics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

No fewer than 40 NYSC staff including Local Government Inspectors, Zonal Inspectors and Heads of Branches took part in the 2-day training.
