Obiano’ CoS warns against complacency to prevention of COVID-19
Mr Primus Odili, Chief of Staff to Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra has warned residents of the state not to become complacent in keeping to the precautionary measures against Corona Virus Disease.
Odili said this after receiving cash donation of N5 million from Chief Fabian Nwora, an estate property mogul to Anambra government in Awka .
He expressed satisfaction with zero active COVID-19 case in Anambra after the index was declared negative and attributed it to the pragmatic approach of the governor towards combatting the pandemic.
Recall that Obiano had during the week announced that the first index case in Anambra had tested negative to COVID-19 while the test results of the contacted cases were being awaited.
The Chief of Staff chided those who tried to play politics with the index case and explained that only federal coordinated Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had the capacity to declare the existence of a case.
“We thank God and applaud the efforts of the governor who swung into action early enough by shutting down the state and began to take all the necessary proactive steps towards making sure there was no case of COVID -19.
“When the NCDC said there was a case, we followed up by getting the suspected patient, isolated him, traced the contacts and quarantined them too even when some people wanted to play politics with it.
“It is not Anambra that says there is a case, the governor did not even know when the sample was taken, he heard it just like any other person.
”I thank God that he did not pay attention to their politics but focused on treating the case.
“Our people must continue to respect the stay at home order, use their face masks if they must go out, keep social distance and wash their hands regularly with soap, not everybody will be as lucky as the first case.
“The fact that the first case survived does not mean that the next person will, it is important that we keep to these rules because we don’t want to have another case,” he said.
In his remarks, Chief Felix Odumegwu who represented Nwora said the N5 million donation was in response to the call of the governor on the people of the state to join hands with government to fight COVID-19
Odimegwu said the EFAB Properties Chief Executive Officer said was convinced that the state government would use the donation towards achieving its objective of providing palliative to those in need .
He expressed regrets that the masses had to suffer due to the lockdown, but however, congratulated governor on the new status of zero COVID-19 case in the state
Receiving the donations, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government thanked them for the donations and assured them that the donations would be spent on COVID-19 fight and the health sector
