Ohanaeze Welcomes Forum Of Anambra Village Chairmen As Part Of Structure
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo sociocultural organisation, Anambra Chapter has admitted the forum of village chairmen as part of its organisational structure in the state
Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the President General of Ohanaeze in Anambra admitted the group at ASATU hall, old Government House in Awka on Friday.
Okpalaezeukwu said Ohanaeze, was the oldest and most organised sociocultural organisation of the Igbo and that extending the structure to villages would make governance and information sharing more effective.
He called on the village chairmen to go to their domains and ensure that the people were well sensitised to participate in the election.
He said Ohanaeze did not only support a peaceful governorship election in Anambra Nov. 8 but had obtained accreditation to monitor the poll.
In his remark, Chief Ossy Ozolagba, the Chairman of Chairmen of Anambra Villages described the development as a milestone which would solidify the role of the town villages in building an enduring Ohanaeze.
Ozolagba said the village chairmen were committed to complementing the efforts of their various town unions in domesticating the core values and shared vision of the apex Igbo sociocultural organisation.
“We shall liaise with our President Generals, traditional rulers and the local government leaders of Ohaneze to restore the pride the Igbo man was known for.
“We are firm and ready to dislodge that which has held us down, and replace it with a rejuvenated structure that will preserve and guarantee a steady progress.
On his part, Chief Ifeana Onwuemeka from Nnokwa commended the incorporation of village leadership in the structure of Ohanaeze.
Onwuemeka said the initiative should not be tied to politics or election purposes but for a more altruistic collaboration that would serve the interest of the people.
