Oli, Anambra Sports Commission chairman bows out after four years
Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASDC) has bowed out after four years.
Oli told journalists in Awka that he was proceeding on exit leave effective Aug. 9 after a valedictory with staff of the Commission.
Oli described his period of service as ‘not an easy one’ but fulfilling while thanking the Anambra government and staff of the Commission for their cooperation.
He said he was happy for the impact he made but noted that there was always room to have done more but for time constraints.
According to him, my tenure ends in September but i don’t have yo stay till the last day, so i have pulled out and moved on.
“I am happy for the opportunity to serve and the impact I made but more importantly, the human capital we built. You can build infrastructure which is also important but with time, they fade but I am happy for our youths that got various opportunities,” he said.
Oli said though the board of the Commission was not properly constituted for the reasons best known to the governor, he was able to steer sports in the state to greater heights.
He said part of his regrets was the inability to develop a sporting venue in each of the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra while noting that he had laid a foundation that could be built upon by subsequent management.
Some of the infrastructure built during the tenure of Oli included swimming, volleyball court, basketball court, handball court all at Alex Ekwueme Square, the football pitch and tartan tracks at Awka township stadium.
Recall that ASDC was created from the defunct Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in September 2018 with Oli as the maiden chairman.
