Orutugu Assumes Duty As CP In Anambra, Advocates Collective Action Against Crime]
CP Ikioye Orutugu on Monday assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Anambra having taken over from Nnaghe Itam
Orutugu a fellow of war College and a Member of Nigeria Institute of Professional courses was until his redeployment, the CP in charge of Counter Terrorism Unit Force headquarters, Abuja.
Born on Aug. 3, 1966 in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Orutugu enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force on May 18 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex Kaduna.
He holds a BSc in Political Science from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos and a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Port Harcourt and has had rich experience in the force.
Addressing newsmen in his inaugural speech in Nnewi, Orutugu said his mission to Anambra was to fully reclaim the public space across the State as well as maintain law and order.
He said he was not unaware of the peculiar security situation in Anambra and commended the Command for its boldness in confronting the challenges and recording several successes lately in curbing some of the crimes.
He said he would work with the ‘ ‘Udo Ga Achi’ security outfit of the Anambra Government to counter any act that threatened national peace.
“The Command under my watch shall take every professional step in crime prevention to enhance crime-fighting strategies through strategic deployment of our intelligence assets and robust synergy with sister security agencies, organised vigilance groups and other stakeholders.
“Anambra State is blessed with vibrant, energetic and enterprising people full of potential, this potentials can only be fully realised in a peaceful, secure environment.
“There is no doubt also, that as members of the Fourth Estate of the realm, you are a critical partner in the peace and security architecture of the State, I therefore count on your valuable support, devoid of sentiments to report security-related incidents in the most professional and objective manner, he said.
CP Orutugu urged the people of Anambra to remain law abiding, vigilant and continue to partner and support the Police and other security agencies, towards combating all forms of criminality.
“For those who have been misled to take to crime, you are warned to retrace your steps as the command is poised to deal squarely with all acts of criminality without regard for s
tatus,” he said
