PDP doles out N125M palliative, COVID-19 test centre in Anambra
The People Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra chapter has donated the sum of N125 million post covid-19 lockdown palliative to the people of the state with the promise to equip a COVID-19 test centre if the federal or the state government provide a space for it.
Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu chairman of chairman of PDP in Anambra announced the donation in Awka on Saturday also inaugurated a nine-man Anambra PDP COVID-19 Welfare Committee.
The committee is headed by Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe, the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the 2017 election in the state.
Nwobu said the palliatives was to complement the efforts of the federal and Anambra government towards cushioning the crunch effects of the novel Corona Virus Disease outbreak on the people of the state.
He lauded the efforts of health workers who had been in the forefront of the fight against the pandemic while commiserating with families who had lost their loved ones.
Nwobu appreciated members of the Board of Trustees of the party who contributed the money including Chief Peter Obi, PDP vice presidential candidate who donated N40 million.
Other donors were members of the Senate who donated N10 million each, House of Representatives, N5 million each and Anambra House of Assembly members who gave N1 million each .
Mr Oseloka Obaze and Onyemelukwe donated N1 million each, Chief Obiora Okonkwo donated N2.5 million while Mr Godwin Ezeemo donated N1 million to mention a few.
Speaking on modalities for sharing the palliatives, Onyemelukwe said the party intends to enhance the state’s capacity to fight the virus by setting up a COVID-19 test centre in the next 21 days whenever the government makes a space available to the party.
The welfare chairman said N300, 000 would be shared to every communities in the state with the view to support least privileged and most vulnerable 60 persons/families with a sum of N5,000 to feed or build their businesses.
She said the committee which already had N125 million in its kitty would use N12 million for provision of medical equipments for three health institution and two isolation centres in the state, while the wards will get N105, 000 worth of food items and cash.
She said the palliatives would be distributed devoid of political consideration, favouritism, discrimination but in the interest of survival of humanity.
