Police Arrest 10 Over Arson, Malicious Damage In Awka
Police Command in Anambra has confirmed the 10 persons for alleged relation to acts of arson and malicious damage in a village in Awka, the Capital town of Anambra.
It was alleged that some people had gone to a property in Okpuno, demolished walls and set a bungalow ablaze in the land .
Villagers in the area alleged that the irate youths were sponsored by two persons including on Chief Gabriel Ositadimma whose title was stripped by Anambra government because it was conferred by an unrecognised traditional ruler.
But SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra dismissed the claims that the arrest of the suspects had to do with land dispute.
“The Anambra State Police Command has arrested ten suspects in connection with an alleged case of arson and malicious damage to property.
“The claims that the incident was linked to a land dispute involving Agbana Ifite, Awka”
“The Command described the land-grabbing allegations as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary tension, stressing that the suspects were arrested strictly for criminal acts involving arson and destruction of property”
“Given the above the Command states that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations”
“The Anambra Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information,” he said.
