Police Arrest 20-Year Suspect For Alleged Rape, Robbery In Anambra
The Police Command in Anambra has arrested one Chigbo Umeugokwe, 20 from Umuezeiyi Village in Achina, Aguata Local Government Area for allegedly abducting and defiling a 13 years old girl in a nearby bush.
Umeugokwe also allegedly carted away the sum of N30,000 from the shop where the girl tended in the same community after attacking it with a locally made single- barrel gun and a small axe on Oct. 29.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra said the suspect was arrested on Nov. 11 and would be arraigned on Nov. 19.
Ikenga said operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, Awka secured the arrest with the assistance of the local community security outfit.
“The suspect wore a red polo shirt which he fashioned into a face mask and abducted a 13-year old girl, took her to a nearby bush where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“During interrogation, the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement and the exhibits recovered from him were, one locally made single-barrel gun, one small axe, one red polo shirt used as a face mask.
“He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, Nov. 19,” he said
Ikenga said this was part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing offenders to account.
