Police Arrested Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Arms In Anambra
The Police Command in Anambra has arrested four suspected armed robbers and cultists in Awka the capital city and the commercial town of Obosi.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra said the arrests were made in three separate patrol operations also recovered armed, ammunition and other items.
In Awka, Chibuike Ozoekwem, 22 and Favour Patrick, a 19 year old lady were arrested at an uncompleted building at Onwurah Street, Awka by men from Special Anti-cult Unit Enugwu Ukwu in the early hours of March 18.
The operatives also recovered one pump action gun, 16 pieces of expended cartridges, a battle axe, and two suspected stolen phones.
Ikenga said the owner of one of the recovered phones had identified that it was dispossessed of him at gunpoint by four armed men along the Club Road.
Also in Awka, Police Operatives attached to B Division with some men from Mopol 29 intercepted a tricycle with Reg No. BBG 767 QH, driven by one Augustine Okafor, wearing Army Camouflage trousers.
Okafor who was intercepted on the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Amansea was in possession of one Berreta pistol, seven live ammunition, cash of N15,600, substances suspected to be hard drugs and charms.
In Obosi, Police Operatives attached to the Obosi Division acting in intelligence arrested one Kosiso Okonwko on Obosi/Nkpor Road and recovered one Berreta pistol on March 22.
“The suspect confessed to being a member of Aye Confraternity,” he said.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu had directed transfer of the cases to the Command Tactical Unit for a thorough investigation and to ensure they were charged to court without delay.
“Anambra Police Command is actively working to combat crime and ensure public safety in the State.
“All suspects shall be charged to Court on the conclusion of investigations,” he said.
