Police Launch Operation Zero Kidnapping, Other Violent Crimes In Anambra
The Police Command in Anambra has commenced a special security operation codenamed “Operations Udo Ga Achi-Zero Kidnapping, Other Violent Crimes” in the state.
Operations Udo Ga Achi-Zero Kidnapping, Other Violent Crimes is an initiative of the Command in collaboration with Hotel and Bar Owners and the Anambra Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism.
CP Ikioye Orutugu, Commissioner of Police in Anambra inaugurated the operation alongside other security agencies and stakeholders in Awka on Monday.
Orutugu said the initiative followed a review of policing capabilities to nip violent crimes and other related challenges in the bud before, during and after Easter.
He said the Police as the lead agency in internal security had put the operation in place as a proactive template to dispel the fear of the unknown and effectively police the State by encouraging the people of Anambra to return home en-masse for Easter.
The CP said the Operation was a joint operation with the Army, Navy, Department of State Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Services, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State Vigilance Group.
“More importantly, the good people of Anambra have resolved to work with the security agencies in sharing information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of kidnappers and other criminals.
“The Security Forces are now more motivated, as the operation will give them a more coordinated approach to reclaiming public space.
“ Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) as well as other Security Formations/Security agencies have been directed to conduct massive raids on identified criminal flashpoints and hot spots within their Areas of Responsibility (AOR).
“This strategic move is aimed at dislodging criminal elements, it will also assist the security agencies to stay ahead of criminal threats and reinforce public confidence as well as ensuring the continued safety and security of all residents,” he said.

He called for maximum cooperation, adding that operatives had been fully briefed to be civil to members of the public.
“Lastly, We want to thank the State Government and good-spirited Anambra people for their goodwill in fixing some of our Operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers,” he said.
