Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspect Who Shot Two In Anambra
The Police in Anambra on Dec. 25 arrested one Nicholas Nweke, a suspected armed robber in Awka.
The Police also recovered cash of N1,200 and a pump action rifle in the process after he shot and wounded two persons.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra who disclosed this in a Statement in Awka said the arrest was made by personnel attached to the Central Police Station in Awka.
Ikenga said the wounded persons were taken to a nearby hospital and were currently stable and responding to treatment.
He attributed the success to an act of bravery displayed by the victim
“The team also recovered a pump-action rifle, five expended cartridges, one Itel mobile phone and cash of N1,200.
“The Police Responding Team met the victim struggling with the suspect over a firearm at the scene.
“Consequently, the suspect was successfully disarmed and arrested with the assistance of the Police,” he said.
Ikenga said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached the victim, demanded his phone and other valuables.
According to him, upon refusal, the suspect allegedly fired shots, during which pellets reportedly struck two unsuspecting individuals.
“The Case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation,” he said.
