Sir Emeka Offor Foundation Donates Food, Bedding, Cash To Anambra Flood Victims
The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) on Thursday delivered truckload of food and mattresses to flood victims in Anambra.
Chief Chris Ezike, the Chief of Staff of SEOF who handed the relief items to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday, also announced a donation of N2.5 million cash to support the household economies of the affected persons.
The items included 600 bags of rice (50 kg), 60 bags of beans (50kg), 60 bags of garri (50kg), 500pcs of mattresses, 500 cartons of noodles, 600 tubers of yam and 50 cartons of tomatoes.
Others were 30 cartons of bathing soap, 30 cartons of washing soap.
30 gallons of palm oil, 30 cartons of chocolate beverage, 30 cartons of milk, 50 gallons of vegetable oil, 10 bags of salt and 10 cartons of seasoning
Ezike said the donations were in line with the founding principles of SEOF which was helping those in need and in response to the call of Anambra government on members to assist victims of recent flooding.
“In line with the passion of Dr Emeka Offor and his commitment to charity and humanitarian endeavours, we are here to commiserate with the governor and people of Anambra in the recent flood disaster which ravaged seven Local Government Areas.
“This unmitigated disaster left some people dead, devastated homes, families and farmland with over 40,000 persons dislocated forcing the state government to create anout 30 displaced persons camps.
“Consequently, the founder, board and management of SEOF has approved the donation of these materials to the government of Anambra for distribution to flood disaster victims in the 30 IDPs camps,” he said.
Receiving the items, Soludo commended Offor for his humanitarian activities and for always heeding the call of the state government for private sector contribution.
The governor who described Anambra as gully erosion capital of Africa said it was saddening that the state had had to grapple with disasters including flooding, landslide and fire in recent time.
He said the resources available to government was grossly insignificant in relation to challenges and called on Offor and other private sector players not to relent in complementing the efforts of government.
Soludo also took delivery of truckloads of mattresses and sanitary items donated by International Organisation for migration under the United Nations.
Soludo was joined to receive the items by Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government, Chief Paul Odenigbo, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency and other officials.
