Soludo Deploys 5,000 Laptops To Workers, Rolls Out 25 WiFi Sites Across Anambra…ICT Boss
The administration of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has deepened digitisation of government processes with deployment of about 5,000 laptop computers to workers in the state.
Mr Chukwuemeka Agbata, the Managing Director of Anambra State Information Communication Technology (ICT) Agency said this while speaking to journalists in Awka on Friday.
Agbata said over the last three and a half years, Soludo had through the agency increased the number of computers across ministries, departments, agencies and local government officials had increased from paltry 300 to 5,000.
Agbata said teachers and principals in the state received 2,000 laptops in 2024 adding that more would come under the Smart School Project.
He said the digital revolution had reshaped governance and civil service operations faster and smarter.
He said through the tech support of the agency, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning now had an automated budget process while Solution Lens platform was deployed as a civic engagement platform to enable citizens track and report government projects in real-time.
Agbata said Soludo laid the foundation for Anambra digital journey in 2022 when he granted the waiver of the Right of Way (RoW) charges for broadband infrastructure.
“That was the bedrock of Anambra’s digital revolution, removing the barriers that had long stifled broadband expansion was what Gov Soludo used to send a powerful message that Anambra is open for digital business.
“That singular decision unlocked opportunities for fibre-to-home deployment, 5G infrastructure expansion, faster and more reliable internet across communities and an enabling environment for innovators, telecom operators, and entrepreneurs to thrive,” he said.
Agbata said so far, there were 25 live Solution WiFi sites across the state, including schools, lodges, public spaces, and government institutions.
He said the hotspots were not just infrastructure but they are lifelines which bridged information divide and fosters inclusion among students, traders, civil servants, and everyday Anambra people.
According to him, Anambra ICT Agency was established with a clear mandate to drive digital transformation in the State through innovation, collaboration, data-driven decision making, solution-focused execution, and community orientation.
“The story of Anambra’s digital transformation is still unfolding, but the foundation has been laid, strong and unshakable.
“From the quiet yet bold RoW waiver, to the visible footprint of Solution WiFi, to the digitisation of governance, what we are building under Governor Soludo is a future where technology works for the people.
“This is about more than gadgets and cables.
“It is about creating a smart, liveable, and prosperous megacity, which equips youth, empowers workers, strengthens institutions, and ensures that no one
is left behind,” he said.
