Sowore Urges Soludo To Free Popular Native Doctor Akwa Okuko, Others
Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to end the continued detention of Chidozie Nwagwu popularly known as Akwa Okuko.
Nwangwu a celebrity native doctor was arrested by operatives of Agunaechemba in February 2024 for alleged preparing charms for hardened criminals and had been in detention since then.
Others arrested on the same allegations were Ekene Igboekweze, known as Eke Hit and Onyebuchi Okocha also known as Onye Ezeh.
The suspects are currently standing trial at an Anambra High Court, Awka.
In a post in his Facebook page, Sowore expressed worry over the prolonged incarceration of Akwa Okuko and called on Soludo to end what he called ‘persecution’.
He said practicing traditional religion was not a crime unless there were other things which the public did not know concerning the matter.
“According to him, I am raising fresh concerns over the extended detention of Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, a native doctor from Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area.
“The Anambra State government has reportedly held him in custody since early February 2025, alongside two other native practitioners.
“Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo must end the persecution of these
men now,” he said.
