Suspected Criminal Gang Using Toy Guns To Rob Residents Killed In Anambra
Some unidentified criminal suspects who use toy guns to rob residents of Onitsha in Anambra with toy guns on Wednesday were killed by an angry mob.
The deceased suspects who operated in Awada area were apprehended by residents when they discovered that the guns they were using were toys.
DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra who confirmed this in a Statement on Thursday said timely intervention of Police personnel saved the suspects from jungle justice.
Ikenga said CP Echeng Echeng, Commissioner of Police in Anambra commended the vigilant residents but condemned their resort to taking laws into their own hands.
He said members of the public should exercise restraint and hand the suspects over to police for proper investigation.
Ikenga said the measure would help the Police to conduct appropriate investigations on activities of the suspects with the aim to bring them to justice according to law.
“Armed suspects, operating with motorcycles, robbed some persons in their shops at Awada.
“During a hot chase by an angry mob when they discovered the robbers were using toy guns, they accosted the suspects at Oraifite street by Ogbo bread and set them ablaze with their motorcycles.
“CP frowned at such an act, thanked the members of the public for assisting the Police in apprehending suspected criminals and urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking the law into their own hands.
“They should endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest Police Station whenever they are apprehended,” he said.
