The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter has called for speedy conclusion of the 2020 Anambra State Football Association (ASFA) election in the interest of football loving community in the stare.
SWAN made the call in a communiqué dated Dec. 9 issued after its 2020 SWAN WEEK.
The communiqué which was signed by Tony Oji and Chimezie Anaso, its chairman and secretary respectively also commended the care taker committee led by Emeka Okeke founder of Aspire FC for the positive impact it made while in office.
Recall that ASFA was yet to fully constituted since Aug. 2 when the last board headed by Ifeanyi Ubah expired due to inconclusive elections.
The association commended Willie Obiano, governor of Anambra for the ongoing construction work at the Awka Township Stadium while urging the contractor to deliver on schedule.
According to SWAN, we commend Gov.Willie Obiano’s efforts at addressing the infrastructure deficiency in the sports sector and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at Awka Township stadium.
“We however call on the contractor to deliver the project according to specification and within the proposed date.
“We sue for imminent conclusion of the 2020 ASFA elections and commending the Emeka Okeke led Caretaker Committee for laying a solid foundation for goal- oriented football administration in Anambra
“We are happy that the ANSFA Caretaker Committee deemed it fit to recognise the place of Sports Writers in the development of sports and football in particular by making one of its offices in the new Secretariat available to SWAN,” it stated.
SWAN lauds the Anambra government for keeping athletes in camp and called on Team Anambra contingent to Edo 2020 to remain focused in their preparations and urge them to go to Benin City and surpass their previous records at the National Sports Festival.
The body endorsed the Anambra Football Kiddies Camp championed by Maureen Madu, ex Super Falcons and Anambra Female Football Ambassador as well as call on parents to make their children/wards available for the opportunity.

“These include Anambra Sports Development Commission, Divine Systematic investment Ltd and Spine Communications Ltd, among others.
“We thank Emeka Okeke for endowing the Best Sports Writer Award and enjoined other individuals and cooperate bodies to take a cue and expand the scope,” it stated.
