United Igbo Elders Back Soludo On ‘Udo ga Achi’ Security Initiative
The United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide (UNIEC), a non-partisan sociocultural group has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for the inauguration of the ‘Udo Ga Achi’ Security Initiative and ‘Agunechemba’ outfit to combat insecurity in Anambra.
UNIEC in a Statement made available in Awka on Monday endorsed the initiative describing it as proactive, commendable and a bold move towards ensuring security and fostering communal well-being of people in Anambra and Southeast in general.
The Igbo Elders in the Statement jointly signed by His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama and Pastor Michael Obierika, the Director General of the Council and Secretary of Board of Trustees pledged their support for the initiative.
The council said there was a need for a multi-pronged approach which would combine community vigilance with robust state-led security operations, to achieve lasting peace and security while urging governors in neighboring states to take a cue.
It said the initiative was not merely reactive but a proactive strategy that engaged the community at the grassroots saying they believed that the participation of local communities in security would enhance safety and strengthen bonds.
According to them, ‘Agunechemba’ which means ‘The lion of protection’ is a crucial step towards fostering community-based security and restoring peace in Anambra.
“The council recognises the importance of local involvement in combating crime and believes that empowering communities to actively participate in their own protection is vital for long-term security.
The launch of “Operation Udo Ga-Achi,” which translates to ‘Operation Peace Shall Reign’ with the Agunechemba outfit is highly commended by UNIEC as a comprehensive strategy aimed at tackling insecurity from multiple angles.
“We commend Governor Soludo’s bold and decisive leadership in addressing the security challenges facing Anambra.
“We want to express our willingness to assist in the implementation of these programmes, which is important to sustainable security, values and economic prosperity of Igbo people,” it said
UNIEC called for effective collaboration between the state government, security agencies, and local communities in ensuring the success of the initiative.
They emphasised the need for rigorous training and effective oversight of Agunechemba members to maintain professionalism and prevent abuses of power.
