Urum Community Disclaims Estate At Ochiokwa Land, Warns Buyers
The people of Urum Community in Awka North Local Government area of Anambra State have expressed worry over the nefarious activities of land grabbers in the town.
They said the need has come for the government to regulate their activities by profiling to ascertain the genuine ones among them and protect unsuspecting members of the public from falling victim to fraudulent land deals.
Mr Felix Godwin, the President General of Urum Development Union and other leaders of the community raised the alarm while speaking to Journalists on the increasing rate of land racketeering under guise of Estate Developers.
Godwin said the Community had set up a land committee to ensure that all land bought in Urum were sold by the genuine owners.
The PG said Urum would not fold her arms and watch some unscrupulous persons who felt they were rich destroy the relative peace in the town by buying communal lands that are not for sale.
“There is a case at hand now where a certain Developer , popularly known as Nwaguatahihia evaded the community and hijacked plots of land at Ochiokwa layout in Urum and is advertising to the public to buy from him, that property that is not for sale.
“Urum Community confronted him on Jan. 15, he apologised and moved his equipment out of the land on Jan. 17.
“However, we are surprised to see on social media like Facebook, instagram etc where he is advertising the same land for sale in the name of Nwaguataghigha Heaven Estate hence the need for this disclaimer,” he said
Godwin warned that anyone who bought land from the said developer does so at his or her own risk as nobody in the community sold the property to Nwaguatahihia who was already swindling people of their hard earned money.
“The public should take note, the Community is not aware of any proposed Residential Layout for Nwaguatahihia Heaven Estate in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area, please beware.
Mr Aron Okafor, the Chairman of Urum Land Committee, said the activities of speculators and grabbers was putting the community in bad light as lands are sold and resold by some agents who have no shame or integrity.
Okafor called on members of the public wishing to acquire property in Urum Community to go through the proper channel created to avoid falling into the wrong hands.
He said the Committee had the sole responsibility to verify who owned in case any developer wished to buy land in Urum adding that the name of the town would not be dragged to the mud by some people who were out to make quick money from land that does not belong to them.
On his part, Mr Jude Ndibe, the Vice Chairman Urum Land Committee, and Chairman Igwe in Council Urum confirmed that the said land belonged to Urum community and there was a resolution to sell it.
He said Ochiokwa land was only land available to the indigenous people of the Urum and was reserved strictly for farming activities until further notice.
“Nwaguatahihia and any other person parading as estate developers should steer clear of the land,” he said .
