We Will Increase The Operational Capacity Of State Offices…SON DG
Mr Farouk Salim, Director General, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says plans were underway to increase logistics and manpower capacity of state offices to enable them function more independently and speedily.
Salim said this in Awka, the Anambra capital during his meeting with management and staff of the organisation on Thursday.
He said each state office would have Information Communication Technology, Human Resource and Legal departments as well ability to hire low level staff to reduce their need to go or wait for Abuja for every operational issue.
He also enjoined state coordinators to evolve a robust community engagement with importers and other associations with aim of making them part of their operational strategy for more better result.
The DG said the synergy would not only reduce friction between staff and the business community but also help achieve the target of sanitised market and healthy local industrial sector.
According to him, these people are considerate and are willing to cooperate and help SON succeed.
“You have guns and hammer but you don’t need to use it all the time, you don’t have to confront those you are working for, reach out to the associations and make them part of what you are doing, they will be willing to handover who you are looking for to you, “ he said.
Salim reminded the staff that SON was established essentially to protect the local industry from unhealthy attack of foreign counterparts through importation of substandard and uncertified products.
Salim commended their Anambra office for its impressive performance and urged them to do more because the state remained strategic for SON operations.
In his address, Mr Olalekan Omoniyi, Coordinator of SON in Anambra thanked the DG for deeming the state worthy of the visits and that it would stirr staff in Anambra to more loyalty and delivery.
Olaniyi attributed the success in Anambra to adherence to the vision of the DG while highlighting some of the challenges in the state including inability to enforce eProduct registration to marketers’ hostility to staff members.
He called for more operational vehicles, creation of SON office in the industrial town Nnewi, training of staff and provision of online office equipments to boost efficiency in the state.
The coordinator, complained of encroachment into the land for its permanent site and urged SON management to interface with Anambra government for resolution of the matter.
He also visited the permanent site office site and commended the progress of work while assuring that his administration would do all that was possible to finish it and make them commence operations there.
