Why Anambra South Should Go Nnewi South
It is heartwarming that the people of Old Aguata have recused themselves from the Anambra South Senatorial District election rerun to fill the seat which became vacant as a result of the death of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah.
This speaks volume of their urbane and progressive mindset, knowing that they have had a fair share of the slot and are currently holders of Anambra governorship mantle.
The ambition for Ihiala man for the seat (though not the decision of the majority of the people from there) has been described as both greedy and inordinate.
This is because apart from the fact that Ihiala man has been a governor and Senate seat, the Local Government Area which enjoys the status of a Federal Constituency already has a Federal position with their son currently serving as a Federal lawmaker.
The vacant seat was created by Nnewi North Local Government Area who belonged to the old Nnewi political bloc, so it is only fair that somebody from the area takes over.
This area includes Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo which makes up the Federal Constituency.
But then, while Nnewi North already had a representation at both chambers with sufficient federal presence, Ekwusigo presently occupied the Federal House of Representatives seat fir the constituency.
But this is not case for Nnewi South Local Government, a that have supported other local governments in the Senatorial District to achieve their political goal.
Nnewi South, a crucial political enclave with 20 wards has not enjoyed the support it has freely given to others to either produce a senator or House of Representatives member.since its creation.
This is why many are saying that for the sake of equity, fairness, justice and brotherhood, other Local Government Areas in Anambra South Senatorial District should unanimously allow Nnewi South to fill the vacant Senate Seat.
This will not only give sense of belonging to the people of Nnewi South, it will demonstrate to others that Anambra South Senatorial people are a people with high sense of what is just and fair.
At the political party level, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) should consider these factors and make their choice in line with its mantra of ‘onye aghana nwanneya’.
APGA should take a decision that Nnewi South should get the ticket this time around.
It is time for us for Anambra South to go Nnewi South for inclusivity
and excellent representation.
