American-Returnee Held Captivity By Siblings In Own House In Anambra
A man identified as Peter Mokwuah has been rescued after many months of being held captive in his own home in Enugu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra.
Mokwuah who returned from America after many years of residence there was held incommunicado in his own house by his family members who subjected him to starvation and lack of care.
The man was rescued by his daughter, Ifunanya Mokwuah, who had to fly into Nigeria having not been able to communicate with him for some months.
Narrating the story, Ifunanya said his father lived and worked in New York for 25 years and decided to return to his country home after retirement.
She said they were communicating regularly around 2020 when she could not reach her father and he was no longer calling.
Ifunanya said after about six months of not hearing from her father directly, she got worried about his life and safety but the Holy Spirit instructed her to visit Nigeria to save her Father.
She said her dad would not be in need of money because he drew a monthly pension of $5000 (about N7.5m) and lived in his own mansion with cars apart from getting money from his children.
According to her, I called my father several times but he was not answering and when the calls were picked it would be my aunt who would say she was cooking in the kitchen and my father was upstairs.
“Sometimes, my aunt would tell me she was out of the house and my Father was well and if I told her to get back to me when she got home, she would never do.
“I asked for two weeks off at her place of work and travelled down to Nigeria in January 2022,” she said.
Ifunanya said when she got to Enugwu Ukwu after spending some days in Lagos she saw that a truckload of sand had been dumped in front of her father’s gate, making it impossible for any vehicle to enter or leave.
According to her, her uncle and aunt came out and furiously demanded what she was doing in Nigeria.
“They threw sand on me and called me a prostitute, telling me to go away but I insisted on entering my father’s compound.
She said the commotion drew the attention of villagers and youths who began to challenge her uncle, Frances and aunt, Josephine, asking why they would prevent her from seeing her father.
“At that point, Josephine claimed her father had travelled to Abuja and put a call through to another brother of her father Peter who stayed in Abuja, the man identified as Uncle Christopher, corroborated the claim that Peter was with him in Abuja,
“After some resistance, the youths forced their way in and led Ifunanya upstairs, where she found her father on a dirty mattress on the floor.
“His legs were already skinny, and his beard and nails were very long and unkempt but they were using all her father’s pension to build a mansion for themselves.
“My father recognised me instantly and was very happy to see me, but I discovered that my aunt and uncles had kept my father locked up without medications and were feeding on his N7.5 million pension.
