Ekwunife Pays Tribute To Late, Former Speaker Of House Of Reps
Sen. Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra has paid tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, a former Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives.
Anaekwe, who was Speaker of the House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993 died earlier this year at the age of 82..
Ekwunife who visited the family home of the deceased lawmaker in Adazi Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra on Friday described him as a national icon and a statesman of uncommon courage.
She said Anaekwe played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic journey adding that his life was defined by integrity, public service, and a strong commitment to national unity.
“As I signed the condolence register, I was overwhelmed with emotion; not just grief, but admiration for a man whose impact transcended generations.
“Chief Anaekwe was a trailblazer, one of the finest political minds of his generation whose emergence as Speaker during a critical period in our nation’s history remains a legacy of honour,” she said.
Ekwunife said the former Speaker championed democratic values with boldness and clarity, adding that his contributions echoed the hopes of millions, especially Southeasterners.
She said Anaekwe continued to mentor young leaders and advocate for justice and good governance.even after he had public office.
“His passing is not only a loss to Anaocha or Anambra, but to the entire country.
“We have lost a father, a leader, and an icon of legislative excellence.”
Ekwunife prayed for the peaceful repose of Agunwa’s soul and urged leaders across the country to emulate his legacy of purposeful an
d patriotic leadership.
