Tansian University Sacks Idemobi As Pro-Chancellor Over Allegations of Fraud
Tansian University, a private tertiary institution based in Anambra has terminated the appointment of Prof. Ellis Idemobi as its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
The university in a letter signed by Rev. Daniel I. Igwilo, the Registrar and Secretary to Council
said the termination of Idemobi’s appointment was effective April 8, 2026.
The University Board accused Idemobi of actively involved in the manipulation of University documents and administrative processes, with the intent and effect of undermining the authority of the proprietors and board .
It said the sacked Pro-Chancellor aimed to destabilise the governance structure of the University to alter control and ownership arrangements to his advantage well as acts amounting to financial misappropriation
“The Board of Trustees of Tansian University, with the approval of the Proprietors of the University Missionary Sons of the Blessed Tansi hereby terminates your appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University with immediate effect,” it said.
The University said the decision was based on the fact that Rev. Fr. Dr. Edwin Obiorah, SAN, former Legal Adviser to the University, lacked the authority to unilaterally appoint him as Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor.
The University said Idemobi’s appointment was irregular, improperly constituted, and was neither presented to nor ratified by the Proprietors, the Board of Trustees and the Visitor of the University.
The institution said during Idemobi’s period in office, he was complicit in actions and administrative decisions which violated the guidelines and regulations of the National Universities Commission (NUC)
“These actions have directly resulted in serious governance breaches, institutional disorder, and reputational damage to the University,
Accordingly, your appointment is hereby terminated with immediate effect.
“You are hereby directed to hand over all University properties, record documents, and any other materials in your possession to the Registrar of University within 24 hours of receipt of this notice,” he said.
