Anambra Community Suspends New Yam Festival For Uncertainty Over Jezco’s Whereabouts
Ekwulobia Community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra has put its 2026 New Yam Celebration on hold.
The Ekwulobia New Yam Celebration was initially scheduled on Sept. 4.

Chukwukadibia Onyeneke, the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia and members of his Cabinet ordered the cancellation of the New yam festival and all programmes related to it on Sunday.
The decision was said to be in connection to the disappearance of a prominent son of Ekwulobia, Chief(Sir) Joseph Julius Ezeokafor, the CEO of Jezco Group of Companies whose whereabouts had been uncertain since Aug. 4.
Ekwulobia Urban News reports that the decision of the Palace had been communicated to the President General of the town, Chief Azubuike Ezechukwu.
According to reports, Ezeokafor was abducted during an all night prayer at Ifite village Awka.
“The whereabouts of the business mogul is yet unknown as his abductors have not made any contact to his family”, it said.
