Two escape death in Anambra truck crash
Two persons narrowly escaped being killed in a lone truck accident at Oye-Agu market junction at Abagana axis of old Enugu-Onitsha express way.
One person was however critically injured in the crash which occurred at about noon on Thursday.
According to Corps Commander Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Anambra, the injured was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the area for treatment.
Kumapayi who spoke through RC Pascal Anigbo, the Sector Public Education Officer the crash was caused by brake failure and loss of control by the Mercedes Benz Truck GBJ-198-XA.
“The crash which occurred near Oyeagu Junction along Awka-Onitsha Old Road, also involved Two victims (adult males).
“No death was recorded, but one of the victims sustained some degree of injury and was rushed to Ebelechukwu Hospital, Ifitedunu, by sympathizers, before the arrival of the rescue team from Nteje Unit Command.
“Obstruction caused was cleared and subsequent resumption of normal traffic flow,” he said.
The Sector Commander reiterated the importance of ensuring that vehicles were checked and serviced regularly to will enable vehicle owners and drivers to detect failing components on time, especially the brake systems.
