Ubah returns as Anambra FA Chairman, Balepo elected member
Incumbent Chairman, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, President of FC Ifeanyi Ubah was on Sunday reelected as chairman of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) for a second term in an election conducted through electronic voting.
Jude Obikwelu, a long time vice chairman of the association was a returned to his position being the sole candidate for the post in the election.
It would be recalled that the Anambra FA elections which were originally scheduled for July 27 and July 28 were suspended on the orders of the state government which said it would violate the extant COVID-19 laws in the state.
The electoral committee communicated the development to the AnSFA which met and gave it powers to conduct the election through virtual means, this brings the election profess which started on June 1 to a conclusion.
In election result signed Jude Anyadufu, chairman of the 2020 AnSFA electoral committee and issued by Rev. Fr Coach Obinna Dike, Head of Media and Publicity early Monday morning, Philip Balepo, a veteran journalist was elected into the board as a first timer.
Other elected members of the board in the 26 man delegate election were Joe Amene, Uduh Kingsley , Amuzie Cyprain, Obiefune Collins, Adinnu Okezie and Ada Edward.
Elections were also conducted into the Local Football Councils where 20 Councils were successfully concluded with the and Orumba South where forms were returned late.
Bye election would be held on a latter date.
“Official release of local football council and State board election results: the Anambra State Football Association Electoral Committee (2020-2024), in line with the guidelines from the State Football Congress, organized virtual elections into 20 Local Football Councils (LFC) and the Board of the Association.
“The elections held on August 2, 2020 with Rev Fr Obinna Dike as the Returning Officer for the LFC, while Godwin Madubuko was the Returning Officer for the Board Elections.
“In the LFC elections, there was a tie in the Chairmanship position for Onitsha South with option of a coin toss. A bye election will be conducted for Orumba South LFC which returned forms late. Other 19 LFCs were through.
“In the Board elections, the incumbent Chairman and Vice, Sen Ifeanyi Ubah and Jude Obikwelu were returned unopposed.
“The Electoral Committee thanks the candidates, delegates, agents, stakeholders, media and the government for their collaboration in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
“Appreciation also goes to the Nigeria Football Federation and Sports Ministry for their roles in the elections,” it stated.
