Anambra South Election: Onyekaonwu Of AA Promises Economy Security
Mr Chijioke Onyekaonwu, candidate of Action Alliance (AA) Party for Anambra South Senatorial District bye election says he would influence laws that would unlock the economy of the zone and if elected.
Onyekaonwu who made the promise at a news conference in Awka on Friday said he was best suited to serve out the tenure of Late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah in the National Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Aug. 16 as date for the bye election.
Onyekaonwu blamed the protracted insecurity in the area on poor understanding of the security situation and wrong approaches assuring that if elected he would engender community based solution.
“With my background as an activist, I will protect the rights of my people as a Senator because that aspect of representation is lacking,
“I will engage with communities and stakeholders on ways to restore peace and security in Anambra South and unlock the economic potentials of the district including activating the Oseakwa Seaport
“I will work towards converting the vast forests of Anambra South used by non-state actors to economic forests. We have to make people have more confidence in the government.
“As the Senate representing Anambra South, I will ensure that the infrastructure projects due to the area come to it, I will be an exceptional Senator, I will take it a notch higher,” he said.
Onyekaonwu said he was going into the race as an underdog but expressed confidence that he was better positioned to win the contest against moneybags.
He said his mission to the Senate was to represent the people of the constituency and that he had no problems going to the National Assembly to serve his people.
