SON Issues MANCAP to 20 Manufacturing Firms In Anambra
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued fresh and renewal Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 20 manufacturing companies including an importer in Anambra.Mr Farouk Salim, Director General of SON who issued the certificates on Tuesday in Awka said SON MANCAP scheme was a standardisation process that was being used to help to make it easier for small and medium enterprises to compete internationally.The DG who was represented by Mr Olalekan Omoniyi said while a product may be fit for a purpose in an environment, globalisation ensured that products can no longer be restricted to a geographical location. “Products manufactured here in Anambra State may find it way to another locality and and the MANCAP certificate a means of showing the world that these products may be Made-in-Nigeria, but they are Made-for-the World. “The companies we are issuing MANCAP today which are certified for the whole African continent usage:“Landum Aluminum, A-Z Petroleum Products Ltd, Rolex Aluminium, Ezebuike Aluminum, Godwin Okafor and Sons Ind Ltd, Ken Maduako Group Ltd, Jezco Oil Ltd, E-Meks Aluminum Ltd, Seahorse Lubricants Ltd, Elobest Aluminum Ltd, Others were Resources Improvement and Manufacturing Ltd, Citizens Chemical Ltd, Obems Pasteurised Foods Ltd, Dozzy Oil and Gas Ltd, Jacbon Ltd, Ages Ind. Ltd, Marta Ind. Ltd, Curtis-Jas Industries Ltdo Pumic Foam Ltd and Betty More Ltd.“With the award of these MANCAP certificates to these deserving companies and presentation of eProduct Certificate for the some selected imported product, SON and the awardees are helping to build confidence in the quality and safety of these products,” he said.He commended the firms for submitting themselves to process inspection and certification while charging them to endeavour to maintain the standard that earned them the approval or face their withdrawal and reprimand.He said while MANCAP was revalidated every three years, eProduct registration for imported products must be renewed every year.“Each of the awardees must proudly display their MANCAP certification mark and the eProduct Registration marks on their products.“As we attest to the quality feats achieved by these companies today, let me remind the awardees that the certificates are on loan and could be recalled with an attendant penalty if any of the conditions attached to the certification is violated,” he said.Responding on behalf of other awardees, Mr Amechi Ifedinezi, General Manager, Dozzy Oil and Gas Ltd whose products were revalidated, said local industries were doing their best to produce quality products and lauded SON for its role at ensuring standards.Ifedinezi however decried the adverse impact of proliferation of cheap and low quality imported products in the lubricant subsector. He said “In Dozzy Ltd, we ensure that all our products are certified and today, we came for recertification, having passed the quality assurance process from raw material to finish products.“Most of cheap imported lubricant products are substandard, local adulterators are also helping to kill genuine investors, this is any we calling on the regulatory agencies to intensify the fight against those responsible.“The SON, Department of Petroleum Resource, Consumer Protection Council should focus on those importers and manufacturers of substandard product to bring sanity in our markets,” he said.
