Anambra: Nawfia Community Elects New Traditional Ruler
The People of Nawfia Town in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra have elected Dr Shadrach Moguluwa as the traditional ruler of the community.
Moguluwa, an Associate professor defeated his sole rival, Chief Nnonyelu Okoye with 111 votes against 102 in the keenly contested but peaceful election held at Nawfia Town Hall March 26.
Mr Gabriel Okonkwo, the returning Officer for Nawfia Progressive Union election who announced the results said two votes were void.
Recall that Chief Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia, the former traditional ruler of Nawfia was deposed by Gov. Willie Obiano alongside two others in December 2020 for misconduct.
The election was observed by officials of Anambra government while men of Nigeria police provided security and there was no hitch.
In his post election remark, Moguluwa , thanked the people of Nawfia for their active participation in the build up to the election proper and promised to be father to all through an all inclusive leadership.
The traditional ruler elect specially commended the leadership of the Nawfia Progressive Union for their focus and tenacity.
He also appreciated the Board of Trustees of Nawfia Town led by Chief Beluolisa Nwofor whom he described as a great gift of God to Nawfia.
He thanked the governor of Anambra and visionary leadership in the state, and pledged to do all in his abilities to support his government to deliver good governance to the people.
“I urge our people to embrace peace because war is an evil wind that blows nobody any good.
“This election is a new dawn for the people of Nawfia and a great beginning of great things to come to our town,” he said.
The people of the town could not hold back their excitement when the loser, conceded defeat and embraced the traditional ruler elect in demonstration of acceptance of the result.
The new traditional ruler would be installed according to the Constitution of Nawfia Town 2013 on a yet to be announced date
