GP World FA Are Champions Of Maiden Anambra Super 8 Cup
GP World FA of Nnewi on Saturday emerged champions of the first ‘My Anambra Football’ Super 8 Tournament
GP World FA defeated Konti FC of Umunnachi by 4-2 on penalties after the game ended one goal apiece in regulation time in the game played at the NEROS Football Stadium, Nanka.
Konti FC had gone ahead in the early minutes of first half but GP World pulled back in the 85th minutes via a penalty kick after an infringement.
The victory was however greeted with protest when the centre referee annulled the fifth penalty kick by Konti FC when the player fell before taking the kick.
The referee judged that it was an intentional act to deceive the GP World Goalkeeper or that his body touched the ball before he kicked it into the post.
Damian Okoro, the coach of Konti FC said his boy lost to poor officiating in spite playing very well.
Okoro said the penalty that led to the equaliser was uncalled for, he however thanked the organisers for putting up a quality and memorable football fiesta.
On his part, Johnwealth Nwebiem, coach of GP World said his boys were tactically and technically superior to their opponents.
He said Konti FC players made the game boring by falling all over the pitch after taking advantage of his team’s error because they knew they were not an equal side.
In the third place decided earlier, Mekon FC of Umunze pipped Pope John Paul FC, Okpuno 1-0 to emerge third best winners of the Super 8 tournament which started on Feb.1 with 27 clubs.
GP World FA are now qualified play in the Nationalwide League Two with N500,000, Konti FC goes home with N200, 000 while Mekon FC had N200, 000 in their kitty for their effort.
Super 8 tournament was organised by Anambra State Football Association and sponsored by Aspire FC, Adazi-Ani in conjunction with Spine Communication, New Age, GUO transport Company among others.
