Rights Group Demand Justice For 15yr Beggar Killed By Hit/Run Driver In Anambra
The Human Rights, Liberty Access And Peace Defenders Foundation(HURIDE) has called on the Anambra Police Command to arrest and prosecute the driver of a popular interstate transport company who killed a 15 years old beggar in Onitsha,
Mr Uzor Uzor, the Executive Director of HURIDE made the call in a Statement made available to journalists in Awka on Monday.
Uzor said the speeding driver killed the teenager in a hit and run manner on April 29.
He said five others also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident.
The Human Rights activists described the act as gruesome and vowed to ensure justice was served to the culprit and his company.
According to him, the girl who was killed by a hit and run Mass Transit driver along the Onitsha/Asaba ExpressWay before Bridgehead.
“The driver did not stop until he was pursued and arrested by officials of Anambra Road Traffic Agency (ATMA).
“Unfortunately, management of the transport company has neither met with the deceased’s family nor extended formal condolences to them.
“HURIDE therefore, call on the Anambra State Police Command to immediately set up a machinery in motion to arrest all the people involved in the despicable unfortunate killing of the girl,” he stated.
Uzor said the matter was reported to the Bridgehead Police Station for investigation and that no member of the company has identified with the diseased family.
According to him, this is unethical, atrocious and insensitive; this is man’s inhumanity to man, these set of people ought to have been in prison by now,”
