FCE(T) Umunze Mgt Dismisses teachers’ Strike Rumour,
The management of Federal College of Education Technical (FCE(T)) Umunze in Anambra has called on the general public, especially students and parents to ignore the purported strike declared by teaching staff of the institution.
Mr Sam Otti, the Public Relations Officer of FCE(T) Umunze said this in an interview.
The College of Education Academic Staff Union COEASU, FCE(T) Umunze chapter through its chairman Dr Churchill Okonkwo, had said that they had embarked on strike effective Aug.23 to protest non-payment of some entitlement by the management.
Churchill who advised parents to recall their children as there was no academic going on in the institution said the strike was to protest unpaid mobilisation for teaching practice supervision and TETFund teaching practice intervention owed since 2016 among others.
Otti contrary to the claims, academic activities were in full bloom in the institution without hindrance.
He said the institution held its matriculation which was an academic activity successfully at the weekend and that students were writing their examination.
He said there was no protest nor down-tool as lecturers were dutifully going about their business of teaching and supervision.
The PRO said COEASU was having an internal misunderstanding and regretted that the leadership was trying to drag the institution management into it, noting that it had nothing to do with it.
“There is no strike in the College, lecturers are working, students are in school and everything is normal.
“They said the strike started on Tuesday but we held our matriculation successfully at the weekend, examination is going on and academic activity is normal,” he said.
Otti called on the public to disregard the call on them to recall their children home as there was no need for it.
