Supreme Court Affirms Edoga As Authentic Guber Labour Party Candidate In Enugu
A Panel of the Supreme Court Presided over by Justice Kekere Ekun JSC has dismissed the Appeal of Evarest Edeh Nnadi and affirmed Chijioke Edeoga as the validly nominated governorship candidate of the Labour Party Enugu State.
Delivering the judgment on Monday, Feb. 27, Kekere-Ekun held that held that the appeal was dead on arrival owing to the fact that Mr. Nnaji did not participate in the primary Election held by the party.
The Apex Court held that the appellant was unable to convincingly satisfy the court that he was the duly nominated candidate through consensus in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022.
It said he failed to demonstrate that there was a special convention affirming him as the consensus candidate.
The Court agreed with the Lead Counsel representing the Labour party, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN and M.J Numa, SAN that the Appellant contention at the trial court culminating into the appeal was against Public Policy as the Appellant’s lack Locus Standi.
With the verdict of the Supreme Court, Edeoga remains the validly nominated governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the March 11 governorship election in Enugu..
