Red Cross Elects New Leadership In Anambra
The Nigerian Red Cross, Anambra branch has elected Prof. Ifeyinwa Emelie as its first female Chairman alongside 11 other executive members through a voice vote.
Emelie replaced Prof. Peter Katchy who had managed the Anambra branch of the Red Cross for several years after the dissolution of his executive.
Also elected were Anthony
Ezedigbo, Vice Chairman; Ifeoma Okonkwo, Legal Adviser; Chizoba Orgu, Branch Development; Dr Chrysantus Onwurah, Branch Health/Care; Jude Ejiogu Finance Resource/ Mobilisation
Others were Chinasa Chigbue,Communication/Advocacy; Chukwunonso Obodo, Youth/Gender/Volunteer; Ike Ilozor,
Disaster Management; Ngozika Ossai Finance Resource/Property Management; Uchenna, Okpala
Capacity Development and Okechukwu Avusioke, Programme Planning.
In her acceptance speech, Emelie promised to serve with full commitment and her rich experience.
She commended the past leadership and promised to take the movement a nitch higher.
She also assured of quick response to emergencies if the situation arose adding that humanitarian services remained the primary objective of red Cross.
Mr Muazu Mohammed, the National Legal Advisor of the Red Cross, and Chairman of the Electoral Committee returned the winners.
Mohammed described the election as free, fair and transparent.
He said those disqualified from the election were those who failed to meet the constitutional requirements for the election, including lack of evidence of payment of membership renewal for upward of two years.
