Anambra: PDP Will Field Candidates In All Wards, LGs— Charman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will field candidates in all the 21 Local Government Councils and 326 wards in Anambra state in the forthcoming Sept 28 election.
Mr Chigozie Igwe, Chairman of the PDP said this in an interview with journalists in Awka on Monday.
Igwe said all was set for the party’s primary on Tuesday in line with the local government election time table released by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).
He said though PDP had reservations on the exercise, it would follow the process keenly to ensure Anambra electorate were not denied the opportunity of quality alternatives.
“PDP is participating in the election, we are engaged in the process even though we have challenged the electoral law and process in court. We want to know what they are doing in this election.
“We have screened our aspirants and tomorrow we will conduct primaries to produce our candidates for every ward and local government.
“PDP is not interested in the selection of adhoc staff of ANSIEC, we are not putting anybody to write results for us, we shall deal with them as ANSIEC,” he said.
Igwe said the PDP was contesting the election to win if the electoral body conducted a free and fair poll.
According to him, we are aware that the ruling party is calling the shots.
“We are yet to see if they really want people to participate because the entire process including the time table which does not give us time to campaign is quite strange to us.
“We are contesting this election to win, that is if there is really going to be an election,” he said.
Mrs Genevieve Osakwe, the Chairman of ANSIEC had assured stakeholders that the election would be credible, free and fair.
