NYG: Rojenny MD Hails Team Anambra, Volunteers Stadium For High Performance Centre
Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games Village Oba, has commended athletes and officials of team Anambra at the just concluded 8th National Youth Games in Asaba.
Ezeonwuka who was impressed that Anambra made her best impact ever at the games called on the State government to ensure that the promising athletes were not allowed to go back to streets as one time champions.
Anambra finished eighth position on the medals table with nine gold, nine silver and eight bronze to cart home a total of 26 medals.
The foremost sports facility investor commended Gov Chukwuma Soludo for reviving the grassroots sports development system and also, Patrick-Estate Onyedum Chairman of Anambra State Development Commission for driving the vision effectively.
“This is wonderful, I followed the activities at Asaba very keenly, Anambra athletes made us proud.
“I am happy with the exploits in athletics, those Children should be encouraged to continue on that path of progress.
“They are our next set of Mary Onyali, Beatrice Utondu and others, they have us the capacity to rule the world at the next Olympics,” he said.
Ezeonwuka said in line with his support for sports development in Anambra, he was making his facility, Rojenny Stadium Oba available as a High Performance Centre in the state.
He said facility had the best environment for training of athletes in the state with standard tracks, football pitch, volleyball, basketball, Tennis among others but required minor repair.
“I want Prof. Soludo to consider Rojenny Stadium as a High Performance Centre, I am ready to make it available to his government for the training of these athletes.
“It is an Olympic stadium with facilities for all events and accomodation but sadly it is lying idle, I want the government to update and use it to prepare these children as world beaters in next few years.
“Remember, Fanny Amun led U17 Eaglets where there for two years before going to Japan ‘’93, that us where you have Kanu Nwankwo, Babayaros who we celebrate today, “ he said.
